Inspired by celestial cartography and mapping, the installation is an abstract and whimsical representation of a fictional galaxy located millions of light years away, providing an astrological experience that can be enjoyed from both near and afar.
Located at HTO Park adjacent to the harbour front, the prominent location on Queens Quay West provides an accessible experience for Torontonians and visitors alike to engage with the installation offering opportunities of intrigue and curiosity.
Transforming the everyday into the extraordinary, a series of 13 stacked mattress spring components – which are industrially spray painted white – form a matrix structure which represente the universe. By day tricks of the eye distort its form and complexity through the changing in viewer perspective. By night this matrix subtly fades into darkness providing a frame for a series of hanging solar lights which shine form within.
This deceivingly complex, yet simple representation allows the installation to operate both sculpturally and as a beacon along the waterfront.
